Al menos 41 muertos en atentado suicida en mezquita chiita en Afganistán
Al menos 41 personas murieron y unas 70 resultaron heridas este viernes en un atentado suicida con explosivos en una mezquita chiita en la ciudad de Kandahar, feudo de los talibanes, ubicada en el sur de Afganistán.
Según testigos, varias explosiones sacudieron la mezquita de Fatemieh, en el centro de Kandahar, la segunda ciudad del país, durante la oración del mediodía del viernes, el día de descanso de la semana para los musulmanes, en el que muchas personas se congregan para rezar.
«Nos estábamos preparando para la oración cuando oímos disparos. Dos personas entraron en la mezquita y dispararon a los guardias, que abrieron fuego. Uno de ellos se hizo estallar. Después de él, se hicieron estallar otros dos», dijo a la AFP Sayed Rohullah, un guardia de seguridad de la mezquita.
El ataque tuvo lugar una semana después de otro similar contra fieles en la ciudad de Kunduz, en el noreste del país, que fue reivindicado por el grupo Estado Islámico (EI).
En el caso del atentado en Kandahar, histórico feudo de los talibanes, no hubo reivindicación inmediata.
Un responsable talibán local confirmó a la AFP que se trató de un «atentado suicida».
El jefe de la policía talibán en Kandahar, Maulvi Mehmood, condenó «enérgicamente» el atentado en una rueda de prensa y aseguró que «todos los servicios de seguridad» estaban «trabajando para encontrar a los implicados y castigarlos».
Según él, la seguridad de la comunidad chiita estaba hasta ahora garantizada por la propia comunidad. Pero «en el futuro, tenemos la intención de responsabilizarnos de todos estos lugares de culto asignándoles guardias», dijo.
«Demasiados cadáveres»
«Según la información proporcionada por nuestros hospitales, 41 personas murieron y unas 70 resultaron heridas», dijo a la AFP Hafiz Abdulhai Abbas, funcionario de salud en Kandahar.
«Estamos desbordados. Hay demasiados cuerpos y gente herida. Necesitamos de manera urgente sangre», agregó.
El interior y la entrada de la mezquita, el suelo estaba cubierto de escombros y algunas paredes estaban perforadas por las explosiones, constató un periodista de la AFP.

Desde su llegada al poder el 15 de agosto, los talibanes se enfrentan a una ola de atentados perpetrados por el Estado Islámico (EI).
Su rama local, el Estado Islámico-Khorasan (EI-K), ha apuntado en las últimas semanas a los talibanes y a la minoría chiita afgana.
El EI-K es rival del movimiento islamista de los talibanes aunque ambos son sunitas. Según la compañía de análisis de conflicto ExTrac, con sede en el Reino Unido, el del viernes sería el primer ataque del EI-K en Kandahar.
Los talibanes, que tienen su propio historial de persecución de los chiitas, regresaron al poder en Afganistán el 15 de agosto y, desde entonces, han hecho de la seguridad su prioridad, después de veinte años de guerra.
Los chiitas representan entre el 10% y el 20% de la población afgana (40 millones de habitantes en total). Muchos de ellos son hazaras, un grupo étnico que ha sido perseguido por décadas en el país.
El vocero del ministerio del Interior, Qari Sayed Khosti, tuiteó: «Estamos entristecidos al enterarnos de que se produjo una explosión en una mezquita de la hermandad chiita en el primer distrito de la ciudad de Kandahar en la cual un número de nuestros compatriotas fue martirizado y herido».
