Israel evalúa un alto el fuego mientras la diplomacia redobla sus esfuerzos
Egipto, país limítrofe con Israel y la Franja de Gaza, también realiza intensas negociaciones para lograr restablecer una frágil tregua
El gobierno israelí está evaluando la conveniencia de un alto el fuego tras haber bombardeado la Franja de Gaza ininterrumpidamente durante diez días, en medio de una gran actividad diplomática para acabar con la escalada bélica.
Signo de que las negociaciones pueden conducir a una solución, al menos a corto plazo, el gabinete de seguridad israelí, que reúne al primer ministro Benjamín Netanyahu y a los principales encargados de la seguridad de ese país, debe reunirse en la noche, según indicaron fuentes israelíes a la agencia AFP.
Ante la Asamblea General de la ONU el secretario general Antonio Guterres consideró este jueves que «los enfrentamientos deben cesar inmediatamente» y que son «inaceptables».
La canciller alemana, Angela Merkel, apoyó mantener «contactos indirectos» con el movimiento islamista Hamás, considerado un grupo «terrorista» por la Unión Europea (UE), indispensables según ella para lograr un alto el fuego con Israel.
Merkel abogó también por un «cese del fuego rápido» en entrevista telefónica con el presidente palestino Mahmud Abas.
Tras el llamado del presidente de Estados Unidos, Joe Biden, a favor de una «desescalada» inmediata, el jefe de la diplomacia alemana, Heiko Maas, llegó este jueves a la región.
Maas, el más alto responsable europeo en desplazarse a la región desde el inicio de la escalada el 10 de mayo, se reunirá por la tarde en Ramala, en Cisjordania ocupada, con Abas.
Egipto, país limítrofe con Israel y la Franja de Gaza, también realiza intensas negociaciones para lograr restablecer una frágil tregua.
«Esperamos un regreso a la calma en las próximas horas o mañana (viernes), pero esto depende del cese de la agresión de las fuerzas de ocupación en Gaza y Jerusalén», afirmó a la AFP un alto responsable de Hamás.
El enviado de la ONU para Oriente Medio, Tor Wennesland, está en Catar, donde debe reunirse con el jefe de Hamás, Ismail Haniyeh, informaron fuentes diplomáticas a la AFP.

Los altercados se originaron por la amenaza de expulsión de familias palestinas a favor de colonos israelíes en un barrio palestino de Jerusalén Este, ocupado por Israel durante más de 50 años.
Desde hace 10 días, el ejército israelí bombardea sin cese Gaza, un enclave densamente poblado de dos millones de habitantes y sometido a un bloqueo israelí desde hace casi 15 años.
Cinco palestinos murieron el jueves en bombardeos israelíes en la franja de Gaza, llevando a 232 el número total de palestinos muertos en este enclave desde el inicio del conflicto, según el Ministerio de Salud local.
En Israel, los tiros de cohetes desde Gaza han causado 12 muertos, según la policía israelí.
