Cuarentena de Shanghai: luces las 24 horas, sin duchas calientes
Beibei duerme junto a miles de extraños en filas de catres en un centro de exposiciones de techos altos. Las luces permanecen encendidas toda la noche y la vendedora de bienes raíces de 30 años aún no ha encontrado una ducha caliente.
A Beibei y su esposo se les ordenó ingresar al enorme Centro Nacional de Exposiciones y Convenciones en Shanghai el martes pasado después de pasar 10 días aislados en casa luego de una prueba positiva. Su hija de 2 años, que resultó negativa, fue con su abuelo, mientras que su niñera también entró en cuarentena.
El centro de convenciones, con 50.000 camas, se encuentra entre más de 100 instalaciones de cuarentena instaladas en Shanghái para personas como Beibei que dan positivo pero no tienen síntomas. Es parte de los esfuerzos oficiales para contener el mayor brote de coronavirus de China desde que comenzó la pandemia de 2 años.

La ciudad ha reportado más de 300.000 casos desde finales de marzo. Shanghai comenzó a aliviar las restricciones la semana pasada, aunque un funcionario de salud advirtió que la ciudad no tenía el brote bajo control.
En el centro de convenciones, los residentes son revisados dos veces al día para detectar fiebre y se les pide que registren la información de salud en sus teléfonos móviles, según Beibei.

El centro de exposiciones de 420.000 metros cuadrados (4,6 millones de pies cuadrados) es mejor conocido como el sitio del salón del automóvil más grande del mundo. Otros sitios de cuarentena incluyen edificios prefabricados temporales.
Los residentes de otras instalaciones se han quejado de techos con goteras, suministros de alimentos inadecuados y retrasos en el tratamiento de problemas médicos.
“No hemos encontrado un lugar con una ducha de agua caliente”, dijo Beibei. “Las luces están encendidas toda la noche y es difícil conciliar el sueño”.
Un video obtenido por AP mostró camas y pisos mojados debido a un techo con goteras en una instalación diferente en un edificio prefabricado.
“Los baños no están muy limpios” en el NECC, dijo Beibei. “Mucha gente los usa, y los voluntarios o los limpiadores no pueden seguir el ritmo”.
