El huracán Ian se fortaleció a medida que avanzaba hacia la costa de Carolina del Sur el viernes después de golpear partes de Florida, donde dejó al menos una docena de muertos, dejó sin electricidad a millones y devastó comunidades en todo el estado.

El director de la División de Manejo de Emergencias de Florida, Kevin Guthrie, sugirió que el número de muertos podría ser mayor el viernes y dijo durante una conferencia de prensa que se habían reportado hasta 21 muertes a raíz de Ian.
