Israel en la ONU: Programa nuclear iraní «ha infringido todas las líneas rojas»
El programa nuclear iraní «ha infringido todas las líneas rojas», declaró este lunes en la Asamblea General de la ONU el nuevo primer ministro israelí, Naftali Bennett, quien aseguró que el Estado hebreo «no permitirá» que Teherán se dote del arma nuclear.
Ante la Asamblea, Bennett afirmó que Irán dio en los últimos años «un gran salto adelante» en su capacidad de producción nuclear y de enriquecimiento de uranio para fabricar armas.
«El programa de armas nucleares de Irán está en un punto crítico, se han infringido todas las líneas rojas», dijo Bennett, al asegurar que Irán ha enriquecido «uranio hasta un nivel del 60%, a un paso del material apto para armas».
Bennet, quien asumió en junio, dijo que «hay quienes en el mundo parecen ver la búsqueda de armas nucleares por parte de Irán como una realidad inevitable, como un hecho consumado, o simplemente se han cansado de oír hablar de ello».
«Israel no tiene ese privilegio. No podemos cansarnos. No nos cansaremos. Israel no permitirá que Irán adquiera un arma nuclear», recalcó.
El embajador de Irán ante la ONU, Majid Takht Ravanchi, le respondió con un enérgico tuit. «La fobia contra Irán causa estragos en la ONU», escribió y denunció declaraciones «llenas de mentiras».
Además dijo que Israel no puede hablar del programa nuclear de Irán pues, a su juicio, cuenta con «cientos de ojivas nucleares».
Irán, que dice que su programa nuclear es para fines civiles, dijo el viernes que esperaba que se reanudaran pronto las conversaciones para la reactivación de un acuerdo histórico de 2015 que reduce su programa a cambio de una flexibilización de las sanciones en su contra.
El acuerdo comenzó a desmoronarse en 2018 cuando Estados Unidos se retiró del mismo y restableció las sanciones. Irán, a su vez, comenzó a intensificar sus actividades nucleares.
El predecesor de Bennett, Benjamin Netanyahu, que estuvo en el poder desde 2009 hasta junio, fue uno de los críticos más feroces del acuerdo, criticándolo regularmente en los foros internacionales y aplaudiendo la decisión del expresidente estadounidense Donald Trump de retirarse.
Bennett, que encabeza un gobierno de coalición de ocho partidos ideológicamente dispares, también se opone al acuerdo nuclear con Irán, pero no lo mencionó en su discurso ante la ONU.
El ministro de Defensa israelí, Benny Gantz, dijo este mes a la revista Foreign Policy que el Estado judío no se oponía necesariamente a los esfuerzos de Estados Unidos por volver a un acuerdo con Irán, lo que fue percibido por algunos expertos como un cambio de política.
Pero Gantz dejó claro que Israel espera un «plan B viable dirigido por Estados Unidos» en caso de que las conversaciones fracasen.
De su lado, Bennett no ha expresado públicamente su apertura a un acuerdo con Irán, pero critica a Netanyahu por lo que llama «la brecha» entre la retórica del antiguo líder sobre Irán y la realidad.
