Arabia Saudita prohíbe los productos libaneses debido al contrabando de drogas
La orden saudí dice que el contrabando de drogas desde Líbano ha aumentado, utilizando envíos de productos libaneses al reino para reforzar el contrabando destinado a Arabia Saudita o países vecinos.
Arabia Saudita prohibirá la entrada o el paso de frutas y verduras libanesas al reino porque, según la agencia oficial de noticias saudí, se utilizan cada vez más para el contrabando de drogas.
La prohibición, ordenada por el Ministerio del Interior del reino, comenzará este domingo 25 de abril, agregó el centro de información.
El Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores de Líbano reaccionó y afirmó que está al tanto de la decisión. Agregó que el contrabando y el envío de drogas «es perjudicial para la economía libanesa, los agricultores libaneses y la reputación del Líbano». Pidió a las autoridades aduaneras libanesas que aumentaran los controles e inspecciones de los envíos que salen del país.
La decisión es un golpe para la economía libanesa, en la que las exportaciones agrícolas son una importante fuente de divisas para el gobierno libanés, que tiene problemas de liquidez.
Líbano se está recuperando de la peor crisis económica y financiera de su historia moderna. La moneda local ha perdido el 85 % de su valor frente al dólar en los últimos meses y las empresas han cerrado, mientras los bancos imponen controles informales sobre transferencias y retiros.
Los países árabes son los principales mercados de exportación de productos agrícolas de Líbano, representando casi el 80 % de más de 190 millones de dólares de las exportaciones totales en 2019, donde Arabia Saudita tenía más del 20% de la participación, seguida de Qatar.
La orden saudí dice que el contrabando de drogas desde Líbano ha aumentado, utilizando envíos de productos libaneses al reino para reforzar el contrabando destinado a Arabia Saudita o países vecinos. La prohibición estará vigente hasta que las autoridades libanesas ofrezcan garantías para detener el «contrabando sistemático dirigido al reino».
El comunicado también expresa que se examinarán otros envíos de Líbano.
Arabia Saudita, un importante aliado de Líbano, se ha visto envuelta en una lucha regional con Irán, el principal aliado del poderoso grupo militante libanés Hezbollah. La tensión entre las dos potencias regionales se ha caído en un punto muerto en la toma de decisiones en la política libanesa.
