La Corte Suprema considerará impugnar la prohibición federal de las acciones de choque
La Corte Suprema acordó impugnar la prohibición federal de las culatas de impacto, dispositivos que esencialmente permiten a los tiradores disparar rifles semiautomáticos más rápidamente, descargando potencialmente cientos de balas por minuto.
Los tribunales federales de apelaciones están divididos sobre la legalidad de la prohibición.
La decisión de escuchar el caso se produce cuando el país todavía se está recuperando del último tiroteo masivo y apenas unos días antes de que los jueces se dispongan a revisar una opinión histórica de la Segunda Enmienda de 2022 que amplió el derecho a portar armas en todo el país.
Bajo el entonces presidente Donald Trump, la Oficina de Alcohol, Tabaco, Armas de Fuego y Explosivos prohibió los dispositivos de choque en 2019 y ordenó a las personas que poseían los dispositivos que los destruyeran o los convirtieran en una oficina de la ATF. Trump había ordenado una revisión de los dispositivos después de un tiroteo masivo en 2017 en Las Vegas, en el que un tirador armado con armas semiautomáticas y dispositivos de choque abrió fuego desde su suite de hotel contra los asistentes a un concierto al aire libre, matando a 58 personas e hiriendo a cientos más.
El desafío es si la ATF excedió su autoridad en 2018 al reclasificar las municiones como “ametralladoras” en virtud de la Ley Nacional de Armas de Fuego. Según la ley federal, una “ametralladora” se interpreta como “cualquier arma que dispara, está diseñada para disparar o puede ser fácilmente restaurada para disparar, automáticamente más de un tiro, sin recarga manual, mediante una sola función del gatillo”.

La disputa surgió cuando Michael Cargill compró existencias de refuerzo en abril de 2018.
