Senado chileno aprueba postergación de elección de constituyentes
A cinco días de los comicios, el Senado aprobó el proyecto, pero introdujo algunas modificaciones respecto a lo aprobado anteriormente en la Cámara de Diputados, que deberá a la brevedad volver a revisar el proyecto en tercer trámite.
El Senado de Chile aprobó este lunes aplazar por cinco semanas la elección de alcaldes y constituyentes prevista para este fin de semana, debido al incremento de los casos de coronavirus, pendiente aún de una última sanción en Diputados.
Tras la propuesta de postergación anunciada por el presidente Sebastián Piñera hace una semana, el proyecto de ley sorteó en el Congreso un trámite más complejo de lo esperado debido a la presión que ejerció la oposición política para incrementar las ayudas sociales para hacer frente a la pandemia.
A cinco días de los comicios, el Senado aprobó el proyecto tras debatir en paralelo un nuevo paquete de ayuda económica, pero introdujo algunas modificaciones respecto a lo aprobado anteriormente en la Cámara de Diputados, que deberá a la brevedad volver a revisar el proyecto en tercer trámite.
El punto de mayor controversia es la posibilidad de que los alcaldes en ejercicio -suspendidos de sus cargos mientras se desarrolla la campaña- puedan volver por dos semanas a sus cargos.
Quienes aspiran a la reelección buscan volver a ejercer sus funciones, pero para sus detractores esto abre la oportunidad de que sigan haciendo campaña mientras que para sus oponentes está suspendido.
«Estamos postergando las elecciones justamente por una situación excepcional en materia sanitaria por la pandemia y lo lógico es que los alcaldes de todos los colores políticos puedan volver a sus cargos», dijo la senadora de oposición Carolina Goic.
El proyecto de ley establece que las elecciones se realicen el 15 y el 16 de mayo y congela la propaganda electoral hasta el 28 de abril.
Al anunciar el proyecto para postergar las elecciones, el presidente Piñera afirmó que la prioridad era «la salud de todos los habitantes de Chile», que enfrenta un alza de los contagios de coronavirus, que se da en paralelo a un rápido avance del proceso de vacunación.
Los chilenos deben elegir a los miembros de la convención constitucional que redactará la nueva Constitución del país, tras el resultado del plebiscito del 25 de octubre pasado, que por un 79% optó por la opción «apruebo» a cambiar la Carta Magna que se mantiene como herencia de la dictadura de Augusto Pinochet (1973-1990). En paralelo, se elegirán a alcaldes, concejales y gobernadores regionales.
