Fiscales federales acusan a 3 hombres de crímenes de odio en la muerte de Ahmaud Arbery
Tres hombres blancos fueron acusados de delitos de odio federales en relación con la muerte de Ahmaud Arbery, un hombre negro, mientras corría por un vecindario de Brunswick, Georgia, el año pasado.
El Departamento de Justicia anunció los cargos el miércoles y agregó que Gregory y Travis McMichael, padre e hijo, junto con otro hombre, William «Roddie» Bryan, interfirieron deliberadamente con Arbery «debido a la raza y el color de Arbery».
“Además de los cargos por delitos de odio … los tres acusados intentaron apresar y confinar ilegalmente a Arbery persiguiéndolo en sus camiones en un intento de inmovilizarlo, restringir su libre movimiento, acorralarlo y detenerlo contra su voluntad, y evitar su escapar ”, según un comunicado de prensa del Departamento de Justicia.
Los tres hombres fueron acusados cada uno de un solo cargo de interferir con los derechos y un cargo de intento de secuestro. Los McMichaels enfrentan un cargo adicional cada uno por portar y blandir armas de fuego durante su encuentro con Arbery.
El McMichael más joven está acusado de disparar su arma.
Los cargos se derivan de un encuentro del 23 de febrero de 2020 en el que padre e hijo, sospechando que Arbery estaba detrás de una serie de robos en el vecindario, tomaron armas y lo persiguieron.
Bryan se unió más tarde a la persecución, según los investigadores.
