Las brechas en el despliegue de vacunas son una preocupación para los países del G-20
El ministro de economía itaiano expresó que las potencias planean abordar la brecha de financiamiento en una iniciativa para distribuciones equitativas de vacunas, diagnósticos y tratamiento para covid-19.
La distribución desigual de las vacunas entre los países más ricos y más pobres es una preocupación clave de las naciones del Grupo de los 20, ya que los líderes evalúan cómo crear un equilibrio para la recuperación de la pandemia tanto en términos económicos como de salud, según declaró el ministro de Economía de Italia.
Daniele Franco dijo en una conferencia de prensa virtual que una prioridad fundamental para el grupo es «otorgar acceso equitativo» a vacunas seguras.
«No volveremos a nuestra vida normal hasta que el virus sea erradicado en todos los países», dijo Franco, y agregó que los ministros y gobernadores coincidieron en la necesidad de una «respuesta audaz y global dirigida a frenar la difusión del virus en todas partes».
Expresó que el plan incluye abordar la brecha de financiamiento en una iniciativa para distribuciones equitativas de vacunas, diagnósticos y tratamiento para covid-19. La Organización Mundial de la Salud ha fijado la brecha en $ 22,9 mil millones.
El ministro italiano remarcó que el grupo también abordó la naturaleza «frágil y desigual» de la recuperación económica, con un llamado a fortalecer la cooperación y coordinación entre los países del G-20 «para poner la economía global en un camino de crecimiento estable y sostenible».
«Es fundamental que estemos atentos y aprendamos de las crisis anteriores», dijo, y agregó que los participantes coincidieron en que «se debe evitar cualquier retiro prematuro del apoyo fiscal y monetario».
Sobre las preocupaciones de que las diferencias en el despliegue de vacunas, incluso entre las naciones de la UE y entre Europa y Estados Unidos, puedan afectar la recuperación, Franco dijo que la atención se centró en el claro retraso en los países en desarrollo, particularmente África, que será «más difícil de superar.»
Italia asumió en diciembre pasado la presidencia rotatoria del G-20, un foro internacional que reúne a las principales economías que representan más del 80% del PIB mundial. Los ministros de economía y finanzas verificarán el progreso en los temas en julio en Venecia, y se planea una cumbre mundial para octubre. El cambio climático y la política fiscal están en la agenda de julio.
