Los funcionarios del Ministerio de Salud creen que Israel podría encaminarse hacia la inmunidad colectiva contra el COVID-19, según un informe el domingo por la noche.
Según la emisora pública Kan, los expertos del ministerio creen que si la alta tasa de vacunaciones continúa junto con los altos niveles de nuevos casos de COVID-19, ya que Israel marca un mes de festividades judías, “hay una buena posibilidad de que en el próximo mes o dos, llegaremos a una situación muy similar a la inmunidad colectiva ”.
Los funcionarios de salud creen que decenas de miles de israelíes darán positivo por COVID-19 en las próximas semanas y que muchos más recibirán una tercera dosis de refuerzo de la vacuna. Combinados, afirma el informe, más del 80 por ciento de la población estará relativamente protegida de la enfermedad, una situación similar a la que se vio a principios de junio, cuando los nuevos casos se redujeron a solo un goteo.
Según un informe de noticias del Canal 13, quienes han recibido una tercera dosis están protegidos en un 96% contra la infección por COVID-19, a partir de una semana después de recibir la inyección. El director general del Ministerio de Salud, Nachman Ash, defendió la decisión del domingo de no imponer un bloqueo durante las vacaciones y dijo que si bien «hay preocupaciones», también hay «signos claros» de disminución de la morbilidad, como una modesta caída en los casos graves.
«Estoy seguro de que celebraremos las fiestas de forma segura», dijo al Canal 12.
Hasta el domingo por la noche, había 84,218 casos activos de coronavirus en Israel, con 1,096 hospitalizados, incluidos 677 en estado grave y 157 con ventiladores. El número de enfermos graves ha tendido ligeramente a la baja durante la semana pasada, desde un máximo de 753 el domingo pasado.
Al menos 11 personas murieron el domingo por la mañana y la tarde, 27 personas murieron el sábado y 29 el viernes. Según el sitio de noticias Ynet, más de la mitad de los 122 israelíes que murieron por el coronavirus en los últimos cinco días, desde principios de septiembre, no estaban vacunados. Grotto anunció su intención de dejar el cargo en noviembre, pero su reemplazo no había sido nombrado hasta ahora.
