Austria critica estrategia de vacunación de la UE y plantea colaboración con países aliados
El jefe del gobierno austriaco lamentó que «la Agencia Europea de Medicamentos (EMA) es demasiado lenta para aprobar las vacunas y hay atascos en el suministro por parte de las empresas farmacéuticas».
El primer ministro de Austria, Sebastian Kurz, anunció este martes una posible cooperación con Dinamarca e Israel para las vacunas de segunda generación, con la idea de «no depender únicamente» de la Unión Europea y su campaña de vacunación.
Aunque la estrategia común de Bruselas era «correcta en el fondo», lamentó en un comunicado que «la Agencia Europea de Medicamentos (EMA) es demasiado lenta para aprobar las vacunas y hay atascos en el suministro por parte de las empresas farmacéuticas».
«Tenemos que prepararnos para otras mutaciones y no depender únicamente de la UE para la producción de vacunas de segunda generación», añadió.
Kurz viajará a Israel, donde se reunirá con el primer ministro Benjamin Netanyahu y la primera ministra danesa, Mette Frederiksen, para lanzar una colaboración inédita, sobre la producción y la investigación «en los años venideros».
Para Frederiksen, el mundo «grita» su deseo de mejorar el ritmo de producción, y espera que esta «colaboración a largo plazo» cree las bases de una estrategia «durable de producción».
«Actualmente, se pone de relieve las vacunas aquí y ahora. Pero también tenemos que asegurarnos que tendremos suficientes en un año, y luego en dos, tres, cinco, diez años», añadió.
La presidenta de la Asociación Austriaca de Fabricantes de Vacunas (ÖVIH), Renée Gallo-Daniel, calificó la estrategia entre los tres países de «muy innovadora».
Pero también advirtió, en una entrevista en la radio nacional, que se necesitan «normalmente de cinco a diez años para poner en marcha una producción y al menos de unos meses a un año para reorientar una instalación de producción existente».
Cada vez hay más países de la UE que se distancian de la tutela de Bruselas. República Checa, Eslovaquia y Hungría ya se han dirigido hacia otros proveedores, como el ruso y el chino, sin esperar la aprobación de la EMA.
