Dos adultos y un niño mueren a causa de la gripe mientras el virus avanza por Alabama
El Departamento de Salud de Alabama informó que dos adultos y un niño murieron de enfermedades asociadas con la influenza esta temporada, ya que el virus continúa circulando por todo el estado.
En su informe semanal de influenza, ADPH declaró que todos los distritos del estado han visto una actividad significativa de influenza. En todo el estado, la tasa de enfermedades similares a la influenza aumentó al 11,54 % la semana pasada desde el 10,9 % durante la semana del 24 de octubre.
“Esta es la actividad de influenza más alta que hemos visto tan temprano en la temporada desde la pandemia de influenza A/H1N1 de 2009”, dijo Wes Stubblefield, pediatra y oficial médico del distrito del Departamento de Salud Pública de Alabama, en un comunicado de prensa.
La semana pasada se informaron más de 100 brotes de gripe, según la ADPH. Los jóvenes de 5 a 24 años han formado la mayor cantidad de visitas ambulatorias y la región sureste y el condado de Jefferson informaron la mayor cantidad de visitas la semana pasada.

Según ADPH, la influenza es especialmente grave en los niños pequeños, lo que resulta en «un aumento de las admisiones» en Children’s of Alabama.
“[Las hospitalizaciones] incluyeron a aquellos pacientes que requirieron ventilación y algunos tan graves que requirieron apoyo ECMO (derivación de corazón y pulmón)”, dijo Michele Kong, directora del Programa de Investigación de Cuidados Intensivos Pediátricos en Children’s.
La hospitalización puede ser el resultado de deshidratación y dificultad para respirar, insuficiencia respiratoria e inflamación del corazón o el cerebro.
Las autoridades dicen que no es demasiado tarde en la temporada para vacunarse contra la gripe, y aún se recomienda la vacunación.
ADPH recomendó que todas las personas mayores de 6 meses reciban una vacuna contra la gripe para prevenir mejor el virus, y agregó que la vacuna es especialmente importante para adultos mayores de 65 años, niños menores de 5 años, mujeres embarazadas, personas con sistemas inmunitarios debilitados y personas con enfermedades crónicas. como asma, diabetes o enfermedades cardíacas y pulmonares.
